"Fiber Choice" The perfect fiber supplement that kids will actually eat!

I haven't researched this product, so I am not sure if many physicians recommend this or not but Dylan seems to love it and it he could sure use more fiber in his diet. Since trying potty training lately, I thought more fiber in the diet would help bulk up the stool or loosen it if needed. Fiber usually helps regulate the bowels. This fiber supplement is a tablet and is made in fruity flavors which makes it easy for kids to actually take without having to put up a fight like other bad tasting medicine or supplements.

This is offered at most drug stores and probably available at Wal-Mart as well. I found a small traveling tube size like they make the glucose tablets, for $2.25 at our local Dollar General Store. The big containers are $14.99 which is a reasonable price for a bigger amount. Just wanted to share this information in case anyone else is trying to get more fiber into their kids diet.

  2. I think like any type of supplement, vitamin or medicines, it depends on the age and weight. Dylan takes one of these a day, which is only 2grams of fiber, maybe research online what a recomended daily dose is of fiber, go by that...kids also get alot of fiber in certain foods. On days that Dylan is constipated I give him 2 and these usually help him go when his bowel movements slow down. We have now actually replaced exlax with this cause these help keep him regular.

  3. Another note about these fiber supplements. I have a family member who struggles with constipation, sometimes going longer than a week without a bowel movement. Since these did so well for Dylan I recommended them to this family member, she now takes 1 a day and says that help her tremendously and is now having daily bowel movements....These supplements helps constipation and also helps "firm Up" the stool. Dylan had never had a formed bowel movement until he started taking these...So they work for constipation or loose stool.

  4. Hello. I just came across this site because Im looking to start potty training my son that was also born with HD. We have been through it all with HD....several surgeries, a stoma for a while, interocolitis, bowel irrigations, botox treatments in the rectum muscle etc etc. He is now 3 yrs going on 4 this September. We are to the point that "he's as good as we can get him" surgery wise and takes exlax chocolate squares daily to maintain a "somewhat" regularity. He amost goes constantly all day....we have some spacing between bowel movemnts but he almost always has a little something in his diaper. After reading your story, I certainly will try the fiber suppliment tabs you suggest. We had issues with extra fiber in his diet before where he became constipated instead of regular. We havent had intercolotis in over a year now but we also have to watch the foods he eats. Even strawberry seeds will build up and get stuck. My son doesnt have formed bowel movemnets at this point just a thinner type consistancy. Ill grab the fiber tabs and let you know what the result was for him. His surgeon is pretty good about me trying different things to see what will suit his needs better. We live in California and my sons been treated since birth at Stanfords Childrens Hospital. Its been quit the road with HD for us all. Wish me luck with the fiber tabs as I hope I have the same result you did! Thank you!

  7. Just curious what your progress was with the Fiber Choice Tablets. I tried them on my 7 year old who had HD and they seemed to have the opposite effect and cause diarrhea.
